One of the largest ports in the Gulf and the Middle East. Is currently dealing with many maritime lines that have enabled it to be a fulcrum for export and re-export to many countries of the world. The port aims to strengthen its position to be an essential part of the new Silk Road. The port is equipped to handle up to 7.8 million tons of products annually. The port has undergone several stages of development, including three container terminals with a capacity of six million containers per year. This QR 19 billion project will not only support the expected growth in container trafc but is also designed to accommodate the movement of general cargo, imports of cars, livestock and grain shipments as well as marine support vessels, coastguard vessels and marine support units. The new port was built on 26 square kilometers, with multi-use terminals capable of accommodating 1.7 million tons of general cargo annually, grain facility of about 1 million tons per year, a vehicle terminal with a capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year as well as plants to deal with livestock products. The new port, located strategically outside the capital city of Doha, has been built on a world-class standard and was equipped with state-of-the-art technology as well as being a vital component of Qatar’s economic infrastructure.
